Moving

Therapy in Indianapolis, Zionsville, and Carmel, IN

Moving is generally recognized as a major stress inducer. It can be quite disconcerting to leave familiar people and places to come to a strange place with new people.

Trading the known for the unknown can be challenging. The uncertainty about what lies ahead makes it hard to bridge the gap between what was and what may be. There is tension between a certain past and an uncertain future.

Even the anticipation of going to something better may not completely make up for the loss of what has to be left behind. Shortly after you arrive, you may ask yourself, "What have I done?" Some of what you find in the new place may not have been anticipated. For example, different parts of the country, like the midwest, have cultural differences that are subtle but uncomfortable for someone who is unaccustomed to "how things are done here." What is touted as "Hoosier hospitality" may seem to be over-rated. Or perhaps you are nervous about leaving the midwest, where you do feel at home, and going to the unfamiliar.
